Districts of Maharashtra
Maharashtra is an Indian state that was formed on 1 May 1960 with 26 initial districts. Since then, 10 additional districts have been created, and the state currently has 36 districts. These districts are grouped into six administrative divisions, namely Aurangabad, Amravati, Konkan, Pune, Nashik, and Nagpur.
Ahmadnagar is the largest district of Maharashtra covering an area of 17048 km² while Mumbai is the smallest district of Maharashtra covering an area of 157 km². Thane is the most populous whereas Sindhudurg is the least populous district in Maharashtra state.
