Speech on Mahatma Gandhi Ji

‘Good morning everyone!’, Today we are here to give a small tribute to the father of our nation and I hope I am going to do that.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2 1869 at Porbandar Gujarat. He was the son of the chief minister of Porbandar, Karamchand Gandhi and his mother was Putlibai. He was raised in a very religious background and from the beginning, he was taught about the value of self-discipline and nonviolence.

At the age of 19, Gandhi left his home to study law in London, and in 1891 he was asked to represent an Indian firm in South Africa. With his wife Kasturbai and his children, Gandhi lived in South Africa for almost 20 years.

Gandhi was an Indian immigrant in South Africa so he had to face a lot of discrimination and once he was traveling in a train where he was asked to give up his first-class seat to a European traveler. He refused and as a result of that, he was beaten and thrown out of the train by a white driver. This incident is considered to be the turning point in Gandhi’s life as it made him think about how Indians are abused by the British.

He started teaching everyone passive resistance and in July 1914, After spending almost 20 years in South Africa Gandhi returned to India to get India its Independence.

Finally in 1947 British gave India its independence but divided the country into 2 colonies: India and Pakistan. Gandhi was against the partition.

On January 30, 1948, Gandhiji was on his way back from an evening prayer in New Delhi when he was shot dead by Nathuram Godse. He was a Hindu Fanatic who was furious about the fact that Gandhi was against the partition and was negotiating on canceling it. The next day millions mourned and he was cremated on the banks of the Holy Jumna river.

I want to conclude by saying that the life of Mahatma Gandhi is an open book where we could learn how to approach life and the importance of non-violence. He lived for the countries betterment and he died for the country. Thank you.
