UAE Customs Laws 2023
From January 1, 2023, all items shipped from outside the UAE with a value above Dh300 are subject to customs clearance and duties, replacing the previous threshold of Dh1000. Imported products with a value below Dh300 are still free from customs taxes.
This applies under the guidelines of the Dubai Customs – Notice No. 5 of 2022, which came into effect on January 1. Residents shopping internationally over the stipulated value will now have to pay the following on their purchases: 5 percent import customs duty. 5 percent value-added tax (VAT).
Each traveler is permitted to bring the following with them into the United Arab Emirates (UAE): 4 liters of alcohol or one carton / 24 cans of beer. AED 2,000 worth of cigarettes or 400 sticks of cigarettes. AED 3,000 worth of gifts, including perfume.
Customs clearance services include preparing and submitting papers required to allow exports or imports into the country, representing customers during a customs inspection, assessment, and tax payment, and receiving shipments and documents from customs after clearance.
